In 2007, painter and illustrator Leila Cothran decided to pursue her lifelong dream of career in art and created Illustrated Ink. Leila lived and studied painting in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. A lot of her designs are inspired by her experiences there. Other inspirations for her art are her love of Mexico, traditional tattoos, folk art, los Muertos, sugar skulls, mermaids and vibrant colours.
Leila is fascinated with all things old and mysterious. She adores antique photographs, treasure hunting, fairy tails, watermelon, writing letters, the seaside, carnivals, her pets, birds, Chalkware Saints, stacks of musty books, Christmas lights, old cathedrals, and Mexican Coca-Cola (the one in a glass bottle).
Residing in Austin, Texas, she creates her one-of-a-kind designs in her historical home that was built in the 1800's while surrounded by her husband, 2 kitties and Corgi.
